Re: DW 2014.1 Removing Closing CF Tag

There are many Dreamweaver users who are unhappy with the dwindling ColdFusion support in the new releases.  Might I suggest you take a look at ColdFusion Builder 3 (CFBuilder)?  If you have ColdFusion 11, you already have at least one CFBuilder license at no cost.  CFBuilder is developed and maintained by the ColdFusion team, so it is always in compatibility lock-step with the current release of ColdFusion.  Since Dreamweaver is developed and maintained by a completely different Adobe division (the Creative Cloud team) from the ColdFusion team, there isn't close communication and coordination with the ColdFusion team anymore.

I think overall Adobe is trying to remove some of the bloat from Dreamweaver and make it a more responsive web development tool, so gradually stripping off the overhead of the ColdFusion tie-ins is helping them do that.  While it surely aggravates the relatively small number of ColdFusion developers (small in comparison to the number of developers using other languages/stacks, and in comparison to those who only do front-end design), overall it is a positive move.

I was a longtime Dreamweaver user, but switched to CFBuilder when version 2 was released with ColdFusion 10.  There are some features I miss on occasion (design view for one), but overall I'm happier with the ColdFusion coding experience.  CFBuilder 3 is much faster than 2 as well, which is one of the main reasons many chose not to move to CFBuilder 2 from Dreamweaver or other IDEs.

Just my $0.02.
