Problem using creative cloud multiple licenses

I have one full subscription to Creative Cloud and one additional subscription just for Adobe Acrobat. At work I use a heavy duty windows workstation, but my "out of office" laptop is a macbook pro. So I have installed Creative Cloud on both (as I understand the licensing, this is perfectly OK) and this has worked without a hitch up to now. I decided that I needed some more Adobe software on another computer, but this time just Acrobat Pro. That machine is in another room and it's just literally for checking colour against physical colour in a viewing booth. This is where my trouble started and I haven't been able to use this at all, despite paying for it for several months now. When I try to start Acrobat Pro on the "new" computer I have to jump through several hoops (it first tries to register it as a trial version, then figures out that I have a Cloud license) before I get to log on as my Adobe id. It then tells me that the software is already licensed on two other computers and can't license it on that computer. I tell it to log off on these other two computers and this works fine for a while, but will then get confused and start the whole process over again.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I registered the second creative cloud license using the same Adobe ID as I just assumed Creative Cloud would be smart enough to simply manage the licenses. Is that what I've done wrong? Should I cancel that subscription (which I can't use), create a new Adobe ID and add the new license to that instead?
