Re: Please help! I defragged my hard drive and now Illustrator CS6 is trying to open all of my complex Illustrator files with a "Text Import Options" box as if they are text files, and they are not opening!

Tried to open an .ai file that was on a safe, clean backup:  "Could not read the file because the plug-in could not understand this file."

Also, when I tried to open one of these 'unopenable' .ai or .jpg files with Photoshop, they also would not open and I was given the message: "Could not place the document 'name of file.jpg' because a JPEG segment marker length is too short or... (and then the message cuts off in the box and I can't enlarge the box or view the rest of the message.)

Does this help any of the experts know how I may recover the use of almost four months of work?
