Thanks for your helpful reply. What you say does make sense and the link to the discussion in the Photoshop community is interesting. Obviously there are many other people frustrated by this too.
I have been in touch with Sigma and they tell me that they have given all the necessary information to Adobe. So it's a mystery unless as you say, they cannot yet do a good job on it.
