Lightroom is not a picture editor like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. LR manages your images and allows you some ajustments (color, sharpness, remove small parts of the images). If you want to do " make photography collages, slideshows, and do some photo editing from time to time." you should try Photoshop Elements as a starting point. There is a trail version available.
